Day 31 of Vicks VapoRub Treatment

I'd like to be able to say that during my period of abstinence from reporting on my toenail progress, my toenails have made an impressive recovery. Sadly, however, the situation is yet to show signs of great improvement. 

I have been continuing to apply the Vicks twice a day, morning and night, yet the fungus does not appear to be growing out, much to my disappointment. What I have in fact regularly been doing is cutting away at the infected areas of the nail in the hope that this will stimulate healthy regrowth. The infected parts of the nails almost crumble off when I cut them, showing just how deeply affected they are by the fungus.

Here are some photographs of my nails prior to the most recent cutting away of the fungus:

Followed by images of the nails post-cutting, which, as you can see, reveals a white nail product under the nail. I'm interested to know whether this white layer is a natural part of the nail or is a result of the fungus, and if my cutting out of the nail is having the required effect on the infection or not.
